Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute, in collaboration with the Community Services Boards, will always be the region’s center of excellence in the treatment of serious mental illness. Our mission is to promote mental health in Southwestern Virginia by assisting people in their recovery. Every department at SWVMHI helps the organization work toward this goal and contributes to the facility’s overall success.

Hours for this position are typically Monday – Friday, 8:15 am – 5:00 pm.

This position will provide pharmaceutical services to the hospital, which includes:
Interpreting medication orders; Distribution of medication to patients; Providing drug information for patients and other healthcare professionals; Reviewing therapy regimens to ensure the safest, most efficacious, cost effective medications are used to improve patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Pharmacy.
  • Licensed Pharmacist in good standing in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Must possess skills related (but not limited) to medication distribution, drug informatics, IV admixture, order entry, pharmacokinetics, automated pharmacy dispensing, control medication inventory, and supervision of pharmacy technicians.
  • Good organizational and communication skills are also required.
  • Ability to work in a secure and locked environment with individuals who are experiencing acute symptoms of mental illness and/or additional forensic/legal involvement
Preferred Qualifications

KSAs and/or Competencies required to successfully perform the work:

  • Experience working in an in-patient hospital pharmacy department.
  • Good organizational and communication skills are required.
